SOMETIMES I make the mistake of thinking that we have
more winguuts in British Columbia than in any other pro-
vince. A glance at much of what is written in Pacific Press
will show what I mean. But the evidence indicates that lu-
nacy has become a national disease, and New Brunswick
suffers from it as much as B.C. or Ontario.

The many New Brunswickers I
have known were all sane. But a
new breed is abroad, one of whom
is K.O. Taylor, Director of the
Education and Development sec-
tion — if you will hold your ap-
plause for a while — of the New
Brunswick Human Rights Com-
mission.

Mr., Mrs., Ms. or Miss Taylor
(which designation would be cor-
tect is not clear) is hereby awarded
the Nobel Prize for Idiocy, a
rarely-granted honor to which is
attached a Greek chorus of boos.

The Taylor person, you see, ob-
jects to a photo caption in Airforce
magazine that features the late
Guy Gibson’s pet, a Labrador
hound called Nigger. (The words
of the caption read in part: ““W/C
Guy Gibson, V.C. ... with Gib-
son’s black Labrador Nigger."’)

Yes, Mr., Miss, Ms. or Mrs.
Taylor wrote to the magazine to
say it had sinned in carrying such a
racist caption. The publication
should therefore never repeat its
error. On pain of what is not
stated.

If you are less than 50 ycars of
age you may not have heard of
Guy Gibson, V.C. But then again
you may have because a magnifi-
cent movie was made of how his
squadron destroyed the heavily
defended Mohne and Eber dams in
the Ruhr in 1943,

tt was one of the most gallant
raids of the war. The planes were
equipped with specially-made
“jump”? bombs and had to go in at
about 200 feet through automatic
cannon-fire that was as thick as
prairie hail. Many of them didn’t
come back, but the dams were
broken.

Twenty-seven Canadians were
among the 200 members of 617
(Dambusters) Squadron who never
returned to enjoy the great age of
“human rights,”’ of which the
Taylor person is a typical repre-
sentative.

evidence when the matter was
brought to my attention by Mr.
Donald M. Currie of North Van-
couver, a former RCAF man.

The Taylor person’s letter was
published in the current edition of

Airforce magazine, the key lines
being these:

Taylors and maniacs of all kinds.

What Taylor was doing in 1943 I
do not know. He was probably no
more than a gleam in his old man’s
eye. if he was around at all he may
have been playing with toy boats in
his bathtub, as Mr. Currie puts it.
In any case, if the boys who
bombed those dams in 1943 had
had any inkling that their sacrifice
would have resulted in the creation
of Taylor and the New Brunswick
Human Rights Commission they
might have said the hell with it and
had an appointment in the local
pub that night instead of flying out
to be shot at.

You owe them an apology,
Teytc. you thickwit. And in
future, when you mertion Guy
Gibson, remember to put ‘‘V.C.””
after his name. It stands for Vic-
toria Cross@
