A2 - Wednesday, January 23, 1985 - North Shore News Flood fears don’t stop houses WEST VANCOUVER homeowners living along Chairlift Road. fear flood waters will course through their properties if a proposed housing pro- ject above their’ neighborhood is allowed, municipal council was told Monday. “Drainage and erosion has becna problem in this areaand is a major concern for the residents,” said a statement contained .. a petition signed by 32 area homeowners. By CHARLES MAYER In addition, John Ken- nedy, a neighborhood resi- dent, told council that the ‘development above the pro- perties could lead to traffic problems in winter due to the steepness of grade along the road. In essence, the housing Proposal intends to develop about 17 acres of land for construction of 42. single family houses. Many residents said they were concerned about the narrowness of Chairlift Road and the congestion which could result in too many residents in the area. “Chairlift Road will become too busy, noisy and dangerous as the main access road to accommodate 42 more families,’’ they said. If council approves the subdivision scheme, the peti- tioners argued, then property prices in the area would be ‘‘severely downgraded’’ because the new homes would probably be rental types. Developers for Hollyburn subdivision, however, replied to residents’ concerns and ex- plained the homes would be’ the kind owners usually would not rent out. Also, fears were raised about only one main access road to the subdivision which could cause serious problems inthe event of an emergency. Flooding fears, stressed the developers, are unfounded because run-off control mechanisms are included in the subdivision design in the form of channels leading into large culverts, Council carried a motion which called for approving the subdivision Plan. pending money CPAir is Canada’s airline to five continents and the prize is a trip for, “two anywhere that CP Air flies, plus - $500 spending money.” Just come in to’any BCAA _ Service Centre as many, times as you . like and enter (no $6 NECESSOTy).
