licka gymnasts cross paths to compete TWO SETS of gymnasts from the Flicka Gym Club will cross paths this weekend. One competition for the seniors is Olympic trials and for the younger gymnasts, an international meet in Calgary. The Canadian men’s gym- nastic team has already been chosen for the Olympics, but the women have two more selection competitions before the great event. Twenty cight women from across Canada are still eligible for the Olym- pic Trials which are to be held at Xoces Eagles Gym Club and York University in Toronto this weckend (Junc 29, 30). Six British Columbia gymnasts qualified for the trails after the first sclection in February. National champion Anita Botnen and Bonnic Witt- By LAURA MOORE meicr, both national tcam members, leave Wednesday with coach Mike Vossen for this important trial. They are joined by Valene Hansen of Port Alberni and Gigi Zosa who trains in California. Two members of the club who will not go because of 1in- jury are Tracey Wilson and Donna Haugland. From this selection trial only 14 will qualify for the fmal Olympic Training and Selection camp to be held at Cercitos College, Orange LEAN Country, July 9-15. This is in the form of a dual camp and competition with the American to choose the final eight member women’s team. As Anita Botnen and Bon- nie Wittmeier return, Sandra Botnen and Kristin Wingfield from Flicka go to the Cana- dian Classic in Calgary. The competition held on July 5 includes two Canadian teams along with gymnasts from Italy, Japan, South Korea and U.S.A.
