PaRngPaciian GLENN Yarborough has come out of relative obscurity and back into the limelight with a new album and = nightclub show. By NANCY WEATHERLEY Yarborough, head singer of the Limeliters from 1959 to 1963 is back, and, in spite of his 53 years and corpul- ence, his sound is very rich. Opening night at Plazazz Wednesday contained a very mixed audience and a relaxed Yarborough who sang, apart from the ubiquitous Baby, the rain must fall, a selection of mainly new work. Many of the songs from the album. Yarborough broke up the Limeliters, famed trio con- taining himself, Lou Gottlieb and Alex Hassilev, in 1963 in order to sail, and in recent years he’s kept up a patchy musical career only when the need for supplies or refitting brought him back to shore. Yarborough has = sailed round the world, had ten boats, and has just bought and outfitted another called La Contessa. His favorite song on the new album con- tains a verse which begins ‘‘] could have been a sailor...’ and he lights up when he sings it. . Yarborough is also plan- ning to do more symphony concerts. He never used to do them he said because you have to plan about a year in advance ‘‘and I never know where I'll be next week, never mind next year.’’ His next big sailing project is a trip to Suvarov, a tiny South Seas atoll with one in- habitant who doesn’t get too many visitors because Suvarov is so difficult to reach. Yarborough plans to film the whole trip and use it during his concerts Before the sea take him away again, catch Glenn Yar borough and his very com petent six piece back up at Plazazz November 26 A BAROQUE CHRISTMAS FRI.
