TWO North Shore residents were hon- oured last month by the Registered Nurse: Association of B.C. (RNABC). Pat Porterfield, of North Vancouver, received = an Award of Excellence in Nursing Practice and Dr. Angela Henderson, of West Vancouver, was recognized with an Award of Excellence in Nursing Research. Porterfield is a clinical nurse specialist in palliative care who provides care and support to dying patients and their families. Porterfield is recognized . nationwide as a leader in the field of palliative care. The RNABC states that Porterfield is a tireless advo- cate for death with dignity. Henderson’s research is devoted to the issuv.of vio- lence against women and the role nurses play in assessing abused women and offering resources to facilitate their escape from the situation. .
