Peddie receives award

Richard Peddie, general manager of
the British Columbia Housing
Management Commission, has been
named as a recipient of the 1997
Canada Mortgage and Housing
Corporation (CMHC) award for an
Outstanding Contribution to

Social Housing.

The award was presented by Peter R.
Smith, chairman of CMHG's Board of
Directors at the annual congress of the
Canadian Housing and Renewal Association
(CHRA) in Montreal.

“Richard Peddie was chosen because of a
distinguished career dedicated to responding
to the challenge of meeting the housing
needs of Canadians,” said Smith.

“Richard is well known and respected by
his colleagues for his accomplishments and

Peddie, born in Glasgow, Scotland, emi-
grated to Canada in 1968 to pursue his edu-
cation in Alberta, where he received a masters
degree in geography.

“He obtained his PhD in geography from
the University of Toronto in 1978.He has
held numerous positions, primarily in British
Columbia and Ontario, at the federal,
provincial and municipal government levels.

The CMHC annual award, first presented
in 1988, recognizes significant contributions
towards meeting CMTHC's housing objec-
tives, in particular promoting social housing,
and/or community renewal,
