Van chase

FOUR YOUTHS were hospitalized on Nov, 10 after the
van in which they were travelling ran over a police spike
belt and rolled into an embankment adjacent to Highway
99,

The unticenced van was believed to be stolen during a
West Van burglary, according to the Squamish RCMP,
Police say the van's driver refused to stop and a high-
speed chase ensued in the northbound lane. The spike
belt was set up south of Squamish. Traffic was stopped in
both directions. The jaws of life was used to remove one
of the van’s occupants. The individuals in the van were
all under age 18. Other details were unavailable.

Identity sought

THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP fraud unit is requesting
the public’s assistance in identifying this man. .
The man is suspected of withdrawing $1,500 while imper-
sonating a North Shore Credit Union customer on Oct.
ik.

Witnesses sought In Central Lonsdale incident

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was able
to escape from an apparent
abductor on Sunday near the
Extra Foods store in the 1600-
hlock of Lonsdale Avenue,

The youngster was leaving the
grocery store when a stranger
grabbed her and tried to take her to
the store’s parking lot, according toa
North Vancouver RCMP spokes-
mat,

The girk thwarted her assailant by
kicking the man several times in the
legs.

Following the attack, the young-
ster and her father reported the inci-
dent to police at the North
Vancouver RCMP detachment,
located at 160 Bast 13th St

To press tine, police were still
searching for people who may have
witnessed the 1) a.m. incident.

Extra Foods staff claimed that
they did not see the abduction
attempt, which took place near the
west door of the store, The door
faces Lonsdale Avenue.

The suspeet is described as being
a Caucasian mile. in his late 30s to
early 40s, with shoulder-length blond

hair, He was wearing a black feather’
jacket (much like

a biker's jacket),
dark sunglasses, a white T-shirt and
blue jeans.

The suspect had a moustache and

Investigators are working with a
composite drawing of the rapist. The
woman was atticked and dragged
into the Chief Mathias Park as she

She was taken to LGH,

Meanwhile the RCMP's sex
crimes unit continues to investigiate
the violent sexual assault of a North
Vancouver woman last Wednesday
in the 300-block of East 4th Street.
