the engine to increase power. Unlike an electric fan, turbo chargers are
powered by the engine exhaust. Modern turbos are very finely bal-

anced and spin at speeds of over 70,000 rpm. They are a

While there is generally no specific maintenance required for the turbo charger

Firstly, you should always warm up your engine before driving, especially in colder weather. This is

to ensure the engine oil has warmed up enough to provide proper

ubrication. Secondly, you

should always let your engine idle for a minute or so before turning it off. If your engine has been

run hard prior to stopping, you should let it
idle longer. This is to allow the turbo to stop
spinning. If you turn your engine off immedi-
ately ater stopping, the turbo can spin for a
minute or more with little or no lubrication.

dissipate the heat that builds up in the turbo.

Finally, it is recommended you change your oil
twice as often as you would in a non-turbo
engine. This is for two reasons: first, the oil
works a lot harder in a turbo engine and sec-
ond, good oil is critical for proper turbo
charger lubrication.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you
should have years of trouble free driving.
