Logging recommended THE GREATER Vancouver Regional District’s (GVRD) water committee decided Thursday to support a recom- mendetion that would allow seven cutblocks in the Capilano and Seymour watersheds to be logged. The recommendation must now be passed by the GVRD's edministrative board, which will debate the issue on Oct. 2. Eavironmentalists have argued that the cutblocks con- tain healthy old-growth timber and should not be logged. On Juiy 31, the GVRD approved for legging seven of 14 eutblocks that were found to de either diseased, posed a fire hazard or rguired thinning. The decision on the vemaining seven cutblocks was deferred because of concerns raised by environmental groups. Ox Thursday, ihe wates committee approved log- ging the seven remaining cutblocks for the same reasons it approved the original ceven cutb!ocks. -The three options considered by the water committee were to approve all seven cutblocks; approve only elected cutbiocks or not approve any of the cutblocks. The GVRD estimated that it will earn 2bont $1.5 mil- lioa from tke sale of logs. Most of the catblocks are in the Capilano watershed.
