Many ear problems can be
minimized by the owner. Pro-
phylactic hair removal and routine
cleaning with an appropriate solu-
tion recommended by your
veterinarian may be necessary.

Cotton swabs should be avoided
because of possible damage to the
ear canal and rupture of the ear-
drum. When bathing your animal
ensure that no water gets in the
ears as this will predispose them
to problems.

If left untreated, ear infections
_can progress to severely thickened
ear canals which may necessitate
“surgical intervention. Middle ear

disease is also a possible serious

complication.
