Boat ramp blocked in West Van

BUILDING boat ramps along
waterfront properties in West
Vancouver is becoming increasing-
ly difficult as the municipality
continues to adopt a more protec-
tive attitude towards development
and structures impeding on West
Vancouver's foreshore.

K.D. Dix, the new owner of
waterfront property at 4036
Marine Dr., has run into
municipal opposition to his pro-
posal to install a new boat ramp
on his property, even though the
ramp had been approved by
council in the early 1980s.

‘In subsequent years, council’s
policies have chunged and these
types of structures are actively
discouraged,’’ Mayor Mark Sager
told Keith Allsop, the general
contractor representing Dix.

But while he said he was aware
that council was looking after the
public’s right of access to the
beach, Al'sop argued that the ex-
isting boathouse on Dix’s property
has no access from the water
withour a boat ramp.

Mayor Sayer wondered if a new
facility could be build that would
have less impact on the foreshore
than an ordinary boat ramp, and
he suggested that the property
owner confer with his neighbors
about the proposed structure.
