Alvarez Bravo is considered to
be one ot the 20th century's
foremost photographers. His work
is known for its fich and powertul
imagery which portrays the inner
vision of Mexico through the use
ot symbolism and mythology.

He picked up a camera in 1924
and has since had major one-man
exhibitions in the world’s most
prestigious galleries.

One hundred and thirteen of
Alvarez Bravo's black and white
prints, making up atull body of his
life’s work, will be exhibited at
Presentation House Gallery. The
collection, called Revelaciones,
The Art of Mtanuel Alvarez Bravo,
has been organized by San
Diego's Museum of Photographic
Arts. Itois the first of Alvarez
Bravo's work in Canada in over 10
years and encompasses six de-
cades of work.

At age B9, Alvarez Bravo is still
active in his work. He fives in
Mexico City, where he is
establishing and developing a
permanent collection af his work
for the National Museum of
Photography.

During his career he
photographed numerous major
Mexican artists, including  Fricta
Kahlo and Trotsky, when he lived
there, and has collaborated with
such filmmakers as Paul Strand.

The exhibit rugs until May 5. A
documentary film) of Alvarez
Bravo’s lite and work by Juan
Mora will be on view in) the
gallery.
