Lecture marks Women’s Day NOTED HUMAN rights activist and former Equal Employment Officer for Vancouver City, Shelagh Day, will give the second Mary Catherine Paterson Memori- al Lecture at Capilano College on International Women’s Day, March 8. Her subject is women’s equality rights in the Charter. Since her graduation with an MA in English Literature trom Harvard, Day has been con- tinuously involved in human rights. She has been president of LEAF, the Women’s Legal Educa- tion and Action Fund, director of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, and Human Rights Officer for the B.C. Ministry of Labour, Day is co-author of Canadian Charter Equality Rights for Women: One Step Forward or Two Steps Back?, a report published late last year by the Ca- nadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women. Day’s speech, Women's Legal Rights in the 1990s: Progress and Resistance, will take place in the All College Lounge, Room AI1I7, Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.
