Man jailed for B&E

A 35-YEAR-OLD man of no fixed
address was sentenced Jan. 18 in
North Vancouver provincial court
to nine months in jail after he
pleaded guilty to a charge of break
and enter.

Housing problems
studied in NVD

NORTH VANCOUVER District
Council is looking for an architec-
tural firm to study some of the
housing problems identified in the
Task Force an Single-Family
Housing.

The task force identified pro-
ifens such as houses being built
that are too large for existing lots;
infill housing that is out of charac-
ter with the neighborhood; and
height and setback requirements.

Council’s current proposal calls
for an architectural firm to make
specific design recommendations
to council after conducting a
three-month study.

Ald. Joan Gadsby expressed her
concern about inappropriate hous-
ing being built in single-family
areas: ‘'The District. of North
Vancouver is, quite frankly, being
wrecked in some areas.

“Some of these houses are
maybe 30 years old, same of them
are well maintained,"’ she said,
“but they are being torn down and
blocks of buildings put up."

In supporting the study, Ald.
Mary Segal said, We arc not go-
ing to please everybody, but we at
least are going to have a detailed
look at what we as a municipality
can do to make new housing as
pleasant as possible.”

Mayor Marilyn Baker suggested
that any recommendations that
might flow from the three-month
study would be an improvement
over the current situation.

estimation could not be any warse
than some of the situations we
have developing right now with
respect to maximizing building site
and building bulb and with respect
to manipulation of the finished
