Cheers — tis the season

HE NEWEST establishment on the North
Shore to open its doors to restaurant patrons
is called Cheers. It is located at 125 East 2nd
in| North Vancouver - directly across from the
Olympic Hotel and right next door to the Li

Gardens.

The management of
Cheers has combined several
things that the public seems
to be demanding of
restaurants today. And, as a
result it has overnight
become a very popular place
to dine.

The might I visited Cheers
the place was packed by
seven o'clock. As is the case
with some of the newer and
more ‘‘in’’ restaurants
Cheers only takes reserva-
tions for groups of eight or
more. Therefore, you should
be ready for a short wait if
you arrive during the prime
dining time.

This isn’t as bad as it may
seem as Cheers has a good
size lounge and you can order
some ‘‘appeteezers’’ to
munch on while waiting for a
table

The decor 1s strikingly dif-
terent from most traditional
restaurants. The walls are all
painted a jade green yet the

effective use of lights, the
view of the Vancouver
skyline and some special

decorative touches gives it an
appeal all of its own

the voung and the old and the

Parking is available on the
Street but with all = the
restaurants in the area it can
be difficult finding a spot.
The menu is extensive but
nothing exceeds $9.95. There
are twelve appetizers priced
from $1.50 for the soup of

The four grill specialy are
from $4.95 to $6.75 and for
an extra $1.50 you can make
a trip to the salad bar. En-
trees include the salad bar
when you choose from the
numerous beef, chicken,
seafood, and pork dishes.
Drinks are reasonably pric-
ed, the wine list although not
extensive is more than ade-
quate and no bottle of wine 1s
marked up more than $3.00.

Our choices of appetizers
were the zucchini dollars
($2.45) and wing dingers
($2.75). For entrees we had

the New York steak ($9.95),

baby pork ribs ($9.95), the
Cheers basket prawns,
chicken, zucchim, fries -
($6.75) and the Cheers burger
($4.95).

In talking to the manager,
David Chew, he mentioned
that as in all new operations
they were still working out a
few of the ‘‘bugs’’ but they
have gotten off to a good
start and offer good value for
the dining dollar. | tend to
agree with him and recom-
mend you give Cheers a try
and form your own opinion.

The bill for the four of us,
including drinks and a bottle
of beaujolais USR, was
$65.30.
