The, goal was optimistic in view of the “79 figure of 956, but it was vital for the smooth operation of the néwly independent organization. The final figure is closer to 2500-an increase of 150 percent--and a cause for celebration! * A. psychology professor from Norman, Oklahoma stumbled across the festival in 1978 and is returning for his third visit this year. Orders have arrivced from ‘folkies’ and farmers, lawyers, miners, engineers and people from all walks of life. Many of those who bought weekend tickets this year are people who spent only one day last year. Festival Coordinator, Gary Cristall, is both elated and scared. Next to a natural catastrophe, excess is what he fears most. The workshop stages are small so as to create an intimacy between performers and _ their audiences. If that intimacy is lost because the crowds are too large,, the festival en- dangers itself for future years. . Estimates show9000 people on site per day is as much as can be comfortably ac- commodated, though it will be monitored from on site. If: the crowds are getting too large , he will cut off ticket sales. It is a festival where all performers receive the same wage, where they are billed in alphabetical order, and where stars emerge only by virtue of audience response. It is a special event, and it is what draws many of the finest. musicians to Jericho Park, Vancouver, B.C. when they could be earning a lot more performing in New York or Los Angeles. We strongly advise people wishing to attend the Festival to buy their tickets soon. Senior citizens and accompanied children under twelve will be admitted free. Advance weekend tickets are $22; at the gate $25; Friday, $8; Saturday and Sunday, $1l each. Tickets are on sale at all Vancouver Ticket Centre outlets, Black Swan Records, Octopus Books East, and at 3271 Main Street, Vancouver.
