reports that more than 1.75
billion pounds of ethylene a
year are preduced at five
plants in Canada, from raw
materials worth $70
million. It ends up in
products worth $4 billion
at the consumer level.

Ethylene is a key starting
material for a_ stronger
Canadian economy, as it
creates thousands of new
jobs in Canada. Two giant
ethylene works -- one at
Sarnia, Ontario, and
another at Red _ Deer,
Alberta -- will be operating
at capacities of one billion
pounds and 1.2. billion
pounds respectively each
year by 1980. Coupled with
existing capacity, Canadian
manufacturing industries
will be able to develop $10
billion worth of ethylene-
based products a year.
