APPAREL MARKETING REPRESENTATIVES FROM two North Shore apparel com- panies went to Seattle recently to learn how to export their products to bordering U.S. states. Cametdance Designs of North Vancouver and Westcoast Soft- wear Ltd. of West Vancouver were among 33 apparel companies from B.C. making the trip, ac- cording to North Vancouver- Seymour MLA Jack Davis and West Vancouver-Capilano MLA John Reynolds. “This practical, two-day semi- nar is a regular part of the highly successful New Exporters to Border States program (NEBS),” said Davis. “In the past three years, more than 500 B.C. com- panies have taken advantage of the program's intensive seminars which are conducted about 16 times a year.” Surj Rattan BUSINESS BRIEFS Reynolds said NEBS is operated by B.C. Trade, the federal department of science, industry and technology, the Canadian consulate-general in Seattle and also has the co-operation of U.S. Customs. “The January seminar included presentations by U.S. Customs, border brokers, U.S. retail and marketing consultants, the Pacific Northwest Apparel Association and a review of showrooms at the Seattle Wrade Centre,’’ said Reynolds. International Business Minister Elwood Veitch, chairman of B.C. Trade, said NEBS shows com- panies how to identify market op- portunities, develop market plans, access provincial and federal gov- ernment support, select: manufac- turing agents or distributors and access export financing. “This cooperative program be- tween the federal and provincial governments offers an excellent introduction to exporting both goods and services to the large market just south of the border,” said Veitch.
