GOLFING HAS become a sport that women enjoy as much as men do, and they also enjoy the exclusivity implied by the dress code as much as men do. By Carol Crenna Contributing Writer This was evident recently at a grand-scale event called the Cen- tury Plaza Hotel Sixth Annual Ladies' Media Golf Classic, an annual charity game sponsored by Century Plaza Hotel owner Roy Lisogar. It was organized by hotel man- ager and North: Shore resident Wendy Lisogar-Cocchia, who in- troduced the game six years ago because she was not allowed to Pafticipate in the men’s Golf Classic. Women who golf well, or want to look like they do, wouldn’t have wanted to miss this full-day excursion. It began. by outfitting its players, both novice and experi- enced, in official golfing outfits designed specially for the game. A golf course full of women turned out in their special designer ensembles. Many added their own touches to signal their expertise and their own style. - All members of the media, in- cluding focal celebrities Pamela Martin and Jennifer Mathers of BCTV, wore the outfit. - If you are unfamiliar with’ the - “sport, .the appropriate dress is as ‘mandatory on most courses as a set of golf clubs. : ; _ “A collared, short-sleeved shirt or high-quality. crew-neck’. top, bermuda shorts .or light. cotton pants and a sporty hat are the proper attire. They also wore a bold hat, (one wore a sequinned baseball cap) or an expensive visor, very high- quality sunglasses, and an item of clothing, often a jacket, that displayed an insignia which subtly implied their participation in previous tournaments. . These stylish pros often though of unique spots to carry their golf tees, too, which did ‘double duty as a. golfing and fashion accessory. Sweaters were often seen, not worn, but wrapped around the hips and knotted in a casual, but well-prepared look. Changes in the weather were noticed only by novices, who didn’t bring appropriate layers to quickly shed and slip into hidden compartments in their golf bags as others did. The ladies’ media golf classic game lasted four hours, the usual time it takis to complete an 18- “hole course, and was follewed by dinner and a concert with The Nylons, who also came to meet the players ou the course.
