Elizabeth Jean Olson was charged with misleading the olficer on Feb, 13, 1996 by falsely reporting that she had been assaulted by Raymond David McKay. Back in November 1995, McKay, an ex-con, was jailed for 11 months for. threaren- ing Olson and her husband and breaching probation, McKay, now 28, pleaded guilty to the charges, bur maintained he had had an affair with Olson. Olson denied the claim with amusement to a News reporter after MeKay’s sen- tencing. According to the North Vancouver RCMP, Olson recanted her story about MeKay and admitted to hav- ing an affair in the spring of 1996. Initially, Olson and her husband, Les Olson, met McKay after wanting to help a person in an Alcoholics Anonymous program. Olson's husband, Les Olson, said his family decid- ed to help McKay as a good- will gesture. In a December 1995 News story, Les Olson was outraged that McKay could use a prison phone to call his home in an apparent breach of a judge’s no-conract order, McKay was subsequently charged with seven new criminal offences including harassing Elizabeth Olson and Les Olson. After Elizabeth Olson herself was charged, the new charges against McKay were dropped by the North Vancouver Crown office. In sentencing Elizabeth Olson on April 21, North Vancouver provincial court Judge Ellen Burdett required Olson to write apologies to North Vancouver ROMP Const, Pat Thibeault. and to the Victim's Assistance program.
