Jokn Campbel! — One Believer, Elektra 1991 he scary blues, the kind that can stop you dead in your tracks and tingle the spine, aren’t recorded often enough. The blues that tend to achieve passing mass recognition take the easy fall-back position of pyrotechnic guitar-wanking and boogie rhythm. Louisiana-born Campbell, influ- enced by the likes of Lightnin’ . Hopkins, has released a powerful set. This bluesman has adeep, growling voice and an economical guitar style. In a prearnble to the printed lyrics Campbell writes, “I have tried to evoke the breath of the Dragon, and to play as close to the bone as possible.’’ The chillers, Tiny Coffin and Angel of Sorrow, cut to the bone. And yet in the darkness, Camp-_ beil finds the way to salvation in a prayer for the believer, the one -~who will open “just one door.”’ In the space between despair and - deliverance Campbell finds fertile - ground. . ; . According to many of the seniors who participated in the focus groups demand for seniors’ rental housing is high; however, the supply is virtually non-existant. If developed, rent for 1 and 2 bedroom suites would start at approximately $495.00 and $795.00 per month respectively. The development would have 26 one bedroom units and 16 two bedroom units. These rents are considered average by the Central Mortage & Housing Com- mission and are deemed af- fordable for seniors. If approved by City Coun- cil the project will have a security entrance and locked underground parking. The mail boxes will be located in the lobby of the building. The firm of Belyea, Soren- sen & Associates was com- missioned to undertake a door-to-door market re- search study to measure ac- ceptance of the project by area residents. Belyea, Sorensen con- ducted two surveys in the neighbourhood that would be most affected by the proposed devclopment. *This ad was paid for by Belyea, Sorenson & Associates Aside from possible traffic . congestion, the majority of those residents surveyed have no difficulty with a seniors rental apartment complex on the site. Although the proposed development has 63 parking spaces, clirninating the need to park on the street, it is not expected to significantly in- crease traffic in the area. Usually, renting seniors can- not afford to own a car, no longer drive, or both.
