December 13, 1989 - North Share News Gift ideas for him PAGE 57 ENGLISH COMPETITION First-aid team wins international honors A LOCAL first-aid team recently became the first Canadian group of first- aiders to win a competition category at the International First Aid and Diagnosis Competition in England. Years of practice paid off for the North Shore St. John Am- bulance First Aid team. Team members Linda Fehner, Carl Glinsbockel, Sarah Rogers, Richard Matthews and coach Tony Lyttle travelled to England carlier this vear to practise with the Lon- don Metro, Lancashire and Thames Valley police departments. By the end of competition day, the North Shore team picked up first place in the first-aid tests and third place in the diagnosis catego- ry of the competition. The team ranked second cverall, edged out by a team from Ireland. The win- ning irish team landed second placings in both the first aid and diagnostics categories. Local team leader Tony Lyttle is happy with this year’s results. But he says the team is eager to return to international competition and challenge the frish. *'! think we tand a good chance of getting back to compete again next year.”” To do that the team must repeat winning «ways exhibited this year when the group won ihe regional Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) first-aid competition and then went on to win the WCB finals. The jocal team competed in a field of TI international teams in England. The international com- petition is sponsored by the British Casualties Union (BCU).
