LYNN CANYON MaILBox Save park for the people Dear Editor: I wanted to share with you and your readers a letter wilten to North Vancouver District Mayor Marilyn Baker by my mother. | think it typifies the reaction of any tourist who has visited Lyan Can- yon, Jobs Rudo'ph North Vancouver The theme of my letter is ‘Save Lynn Canyon Park’® as | write to alert all North Shore canyon lovers that the Lyna Creek corridor is under review by the District of North Vancouver for two subdivi- sions, totalling just under 2,000 residential homes and a four-lane Create a iegacy Dear Editor: Once upon a time several years ago some very wise person or per- sons made « fateful environmental decision which in hindsight has proven to be invaluable to the world in general and the residents of Greater Vancouver in par- ticular, The dedication and ir- revocable preservation of Stanley Park ranks as one of the truly brilliant examples of urban plan- ning in receni history. The present day politicians and planners in the District of North Vancouver are blessed with the rare opportunity of playing a simi- lar key role. The time is now to demonstrate real leadership in the current movement to establish a permanent Lynn/Seymour Canyon parkland from Rice Lake to the harbor. The provision of such a legacy for future generations in the face of the existing development mania of today will require both patience and courage. I urge all lovers of our incredibly beautiful and unique wilderness area to lend their unwavering sup- port to this noble cause. S.R. Gibbs North Vancouver highway. The area under discussion, Lynn Canyon Park, has been assumed by all who knew it, (0 be protected from development. ft was always considered to be a park of magnificent grandeur and is always included in tours of the beauty spots of the North Shore. To destroy this tranquil, natural rainforest would be a terrible sin against the environment, which must be preserved for the cnjoy- ment of this generation and future generations. Last week was Environment Week in Canada and the message coming over the media loud and clear was “Be sparing with our wilderness. Protect the trees. Create more parks and green belts. We are destroying the planct and thus ou quality of life.” $ believe the people of Van- couver are ready to pay to protect their environment. I believe they are truly concerned for the future of their children. This pristine wilderness under threat must be saved by the people for the people. It is a concern for all Vancouver residents, especially those of the North Shore. It is not just a North Vancouver District concern.
