Moore rink qualifies for ‘88 Olympic trials NORTH VANCOUVER'S Linda Moore curting rink will be one of eight teams competing at the Olympic trials being held April 19 to 25 in Calgary. One of the teams from the round-robin competition will represent Canada at the 1988 Olyinpics. To date, five teams have qualified for the trials and the skips of each of these teams is a past Scott Tour- namient of Hearts champion. Marilyn Darte was first to earn her berth last year when she captured the Canadian title in London, On- tario. The other four teams each qualified to compete at the trials by individual selection at two curling camps — one held in Edmonton and the other in Toronto — in the fall of 1986. Linda Moore (1985 Champion), Connie Laliberte (1984 Champion), Chris More (third on the 1984 Championship rink),and Colleen Jones (1982 Cham- pion), will all be skipping teams at the Olympic trials. Each of them will be actively pursuing their own provincial curling titles in January and the right to return to the 1987 Scott Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 28 to March 7, and the Canadian Women’s Champi- onship, in Lethbridge, Alberta. ¢ install oif iter Complete chassis lube * 16 point safety check © Up to 5L Premium Quality oil ¢ Takes only 5/10 minutes and motorhomes. i | 1362 MARINE DRIVE -eessoeo 'HORTH VANCOUVER |Set.8:30-5: Top quality products on all cars, light trucks Offer expires February 15, 1987 == 980-9115 The winning team, the runner-up and one oiher team at the tournament of Hearts, will earn the final three berths in the Olympic trials. 'f it should turn out that Moore, More or Jones makes it that far, then the scenario will change. Only Darte and Laliberte will be skipping the same teams in both majors competitions. Moore, who won the provincial District One playdowns Jan. 10 at the North Shore Winter Club, is curling provincially with a different lead, while More is curling with a totally new team, and Jones has a different second. If Darte or Laliberte win an Olympic berth at the 1987 Scott Tournament of Hearts, they will free up a position for a new team from the list of alternatives at the curling camps. If Moore, More or Jones should qualify at the Scott tournament, then they wil! continue to the trials with that team and a new team will be built around their missing membe. ». Warren Hansen, director of marketing, public rela- dons and competitions for Curl Canada, says, ‘‘This is the fairest way we can do it, given the fact that every curler of any calibre has had at least two oppor- tunities to qualify for the trials. 95 37 ~ Sunday, January 18, 1987 - North Shore News $495 ° Served with soup or salad.
