Robert Half International Inc. said its study found a Canadian worker wastes an average three hours and 42 minutes weekly - about 185 hours a year. The average American worker wastes four hours and 18 minutes a week. Robert Half told the Society of Management Accountants of Canada, however, that time theft by Canadian workers has dropped 3.5 per cent since 1981 because of the tough economic times that are increasing unemployment. The nationwide study of 215 leading businessmen defined “time theft” as late arrivals, early departures, extended lunch breaks, feigned illness, work slowdowns, on-the-job socializing and use of company time for personal chores.
