RUPERT HARRISON SAYS GOODBYE

worked for the municipality
of West Vancouver for 42
years, retires in August. But

that month his friends and
colleagues gave him a

during the past 42 years as
cashier, typist, tax recorder,
returning officer and justice
of the peace, among many
other “duties. He was ap-
pointed clerk in 1943 and
deputy manager in 1959.

His 42 years of service
spans two-thirds of West
Vancouver's total history,
Lanskail remarkéd.

total municipal staff
numbered 12 compared to
about 600 today. The
municipality’s population
was about 5,000.

After the tribute, Harrison
said off the cuff, “I originally
sought the position with
some trepidation and have
encountered some situations
when that trepidation was
well founded.”

He is expected to continue

serving the municipality as
archivist and historian.
