and improve habitat for
coho and chum salmon
on the Indian River.

The $50,000 | Fisheries
Renewal BC project, funded

Work is already under way
on the collaborative project,
with the Tsleil-Waututh
Nation, che Seymour Salmonid

Society, the Department of

Fishenes. and Oceans and a
number of private consuitants.
The Ministry of Forests; the
Ministry of | Environment,
Lands and Parks; Interfor and

Centra Gas also participated in
the initia! planning stages.

When complete, the project,
will create a number of
improvements. to the water-
shed, including: some new
plants and trees to stabilize the
bank, habitat for fish, and the
Addition ‘of large woody debris
anchored into the stream to
provide habitat and catch sedi-
ment.

The ‘stabilization measures
will keep the bank trom erod-
ing, and the stream) from
changing course or becoming

port tish.
The project also provides a

_training benefit for some mem- .

bers of the Tsleil-Wauruth
Nation. They have been doing
much of the hands-on. work
with ‘guidance. from Arctos
Environmental Consulting,
Babakaiff and Associates
Geoscience, and Greenbank :
