16 — Wednesday, September 24, 1297 — North Shore News VOTES taken on issues addressed by North Shore municipal coun- cils meeting on Sept. 22 included: Capacity: 50 Duration: 3 hours issue: That in accordance to the report titled “Reduction in the use of the single occu- pant vehicle by city employ- ces,” the following initiatives be implemented by the city as soon as possible: Wa voluntary carpool /ride share/vanpool program with administrative support from the city’s employee trans- portation administrator; @ the purchase of bus passes or Fairsaver transit tickets for use by employees, when it is feasible, to attend meetings, local conferences and other similar events using public transit; @ volunteer as a “Go Green” site in order to raise awareness about the negative impacts of the single occu- pant vehicle; @ cxamine the feasibility, including tax implications of offering employces incentives to feave their vehicle at home; B allocate adequate reserved parking spaces at municipal offices for carpool/ride share/vanpool vehicles; @ introduce a corporate pur- chase plan of bus passes in order that employees may qualify for a B.C. Transit dis- count rate; and thar B.C. Transit be “encouraged to improve the cast/west transit connections, including the consolidation of bus service on the North Shore; and that the city, through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, encourage the federal government to change the Income Tax Act in order to ensure that the Act is sup- portive of actions designed to reduce the sue of the single occupant vehicle; and that staff report back for revised budget on the costs to install change rooms, including showers lockers and secure bicycle storage in the city hall; and that before any additional parking is added at the city hall/library, fire hall, Gerry Brewer building and city works yard, that council be advised of the rationale for the additional spaces; and that the staff working group continue to pursue additional initiatives. including survey- ing staff with respect to the support for the implementa- tion of fee for use parking at municipal facilities.
