You know they're awonderfial bunch of girls up there. 1 missed them when I had to quit. Now I still feel part of them.” The Gleneagles ladies club has abour 85 members, Christiansen isan honorary mem- ber. She used to golf a lot, but her legs are bad so she is unable to play. She had to give it up in 1984."Since then she’s been the “warden.” She starts off the ladies weekly and then somebody picks her up and drives her home. “All the girls say things are much smoother when I’m there.” Does it come down to fisticufts without the warden at the gate? “Women golfers don’t fight, they just have a good rime.” Said Gleneagles golfer Margaret Christensen about the warden, “She’s so bossy. If you could see her when she’s start- ing us off. “She's very, very serious about the whole thing. Christiansen. was intoduced to the game when she moved to Horseshoe Bay. Two of my curling friends golfed too, so they talked me into it. I love golf. You just’ forget everything except to concentrate on your game. You're outside and you meet so many nice girls,” said Christiansen. She moved to Horseshoe Bay from Edmonton in 1967. “I had a sister here and I came for two months and I'm still here.” Her sister Alice Gartrell turned the sod for the Lions Libby Lodge in 1978. : Gartrell passed away that same year. Christiansen lives at Libby Lodge. She has a fabulous view of the harbor. Most of her family remains in Alberta.
