YOU MAY see winter ina new light this year. The newest colors are
i iad adding a light, soft touch to the season’s dark basics.
ist i , N a . The most modern cold-weather colors ire pastel,
( , Ale blue. pink, mint, lemon, mauve and peach are no longer seen
strictly as summer hues; they now refresh winter knits, suits, outdoor
rasuats and even formal wear,

As designers realize a need for news this winter, they dish up a
tempting melange of warm pastels and icy sorbets, proclaiming a new
color code. From intense to barely there, these shades take their cues
from innocent nostalgia and "50s TV. starlets, flower bouquets,
decadent desserts, old-fashioned candy and ice cream. No one said
winter had to be serious and sombre with none of life’s lithe rewards.

German designers know
the power of pastels.

and a breath of fresh air to
their winter collections.

Cosy pullovers, tweed
jackets, heavily woven
coats, finely woven wool
suiting, all-weather nylon
separates, soft mutflers and
twin sets are made in
powdery shades.

Yarell makes finely
made separates in muted, shiny and silky pastels.

Yellow and pale blue nylon fibre-filled jackets cover knits in
similar shades. The outfit pictured here features a lemon yellow
jacket pulled over a yellow and light grey turtleneck of chenille knit,
and grey jersey knit pants.

The outfit coordinates with a yellow and grey printed silk scarf.
The same pants can be added to a yellow and grey argyle vest over a
