Proper washing is the best deterrent against

AFTER HAVING been driven
through a whole winter, most cars
bear the sears in the form of salt
grime deposits that have dulled the
paint and subdued the shine.

Now with the rain still upon us,
and the promise of sunny, clear
days on the horizon, it is time to
renew and refresh,

Martin Ford of the TLC Auto
Centre says the best thing to do is to
wash the car regularly throughout
the winter.

“Salt eats metal, and anything
that is exposed and not cleaned will
eventually get eaten by it.”

However, most of us do not
wash our cars regularly during the
winter but simply hope far the best
once spring comes.

Ford says it is important to wash
the chranic problem areas where

salt and grime can collect. The
wheel wells are very important
because a lot of salt and dirt is
sprayed there directly.

A less obvious, but potentially

just as harmful, collection arca is

underneath the mouldings which
are the strips of metal or plastic run-
ning the length of the car to prevent
knicks and dents.

Ford suggests spraying a jet of

inside the door frames. A lot of salt
and dirt can be deposited there that
people often overlook.

Most ears are also equipped with
drainage holes inside the doors that
Ford says must be kept open.

“The drip holes must be kept
clean so water that gets inside the
doors can get out.”
