It cost almost 250,000 people their jobs and it cost Canadian retailers about $10.4 billion. This hasn’t stopped Canadians from buying everything from groceries to Gucci bags in the United States, even on Canada Day. Canadians ade 59 million same-day trips across the border in 1991 — twice the number five years ago. Some say cross-border shop- ping is unpatrictic because it hurts the economy and puts Canadians out of work. Others say cross-border shoppers are justified to buy where there are beiter prices, selection and service. Is cross-border shopping unpatriotic? RCMP complete Possee shooting report NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP has completed a criminal investigation into the shooting death of a North Vancouver man dur- ing a May 12 drug raid conducted by the RCMP and West Vancouver Police drug squad members. RCMP Staff Sgt. Ron Babcock said the police report is now in the hands of regional Crown counsel! Bob Wright. Meanwhile, West Vancouver Police Chief Harold Jenkins said his department’s internal in- vestigation into the incident will not be complete until after Wright has released his findings. Daniel Possee, 22, was shot dead in a North Vancouver base- ment suite by a member of the West Vancouver Police drug squad. West Vancouver Mayor Mark Sager has called for a ‘‘tull and objective’’ report on the incident. In addition to the RCMP and West Vancouver Police investiga- tions, other investigations are be- ing conducted by the B.C. Police Commission and the B.C. at- torney-general's ministry.
