On the disarrayed Fraser Valley squad, Tracy Hamm stood out as the one defender who could con- tain the Blues’ attack. The visiting strikers had almost no support. As Pupp graciously noted, the program at Fraser Vailey is only in its second year and may take another two to become com- petitive. All che same, if it hadn't been for the change of sides mid- way through, half of the Cap field would be sporting pristine turf. The men’s game promised to be closer, but the aggressive play of Cariboo College caused the cau- tion of one player and the expul- sion of another. Domenic Comita received a yellow for taking down the Blues’ Kurt Friesen. On the direct free kick that followed, Frank Lore spun a low shot around the wall that slipped out of the keeper’s hands and into the net at the 32° mark. Four minutes later, in a seram- ble just outside the penalty area, the Cariboo goalkeeper literally tackled Mike Dodd and he was ejected. The Blues capitatized on their man advantage with a goal by Matt) Humphries 20 minutes into the second half. Lore made it 3-0 with his se- cond score, a winding run from outside the box to the penalty spot, finished with a low shot to the right corner. The midfielder’s last chance for a hat-trick vanish- ed five minutes from the end when he was tackled fairly on a break by the last man back. Tall halfback Shawa Mullan moved up frequently to field high balls and join the attack, and had several chances, as did midfielder Jason Bermudaz, but the Blues couldn’t score a fourth time. Keeper Jason Maros worked an easy game. On the Cariboo side, Nirmal Sahota defended well on the right flank. Next weekend the men’s team travels south for games with Trinity Western and Western Washington State. The Women Blues will play back-to-back games at the Cap field, Saturday and Sunday at noon and 2 p.m. respectively, against their real competition in the teague, Malaspina and Vancouver Com- rounity College. wk In exhibition golfing action at Royal Roads Military College this weekend, the Cupilano team plac- ed fourth, ’ “Geld Cup Men's & Boys’ Soccer Shoe 1LEATHER OTHERS AS LOW AS $9 499 $1 999 t | SHOE FACTORY OUTLET t Main St. & Mtn.
