Trudeau said Saturday, in his only weekend am- paigning, the 18-cent-a- gallon jump in the gasoline excise tax proposed by the Tories would, for example, raise the operating cost of the Sudbury public transit system, which would be paid for by higher bus fares or higher property taxes. “The last thing Sudbury needs now is higher property taxes,” Trudeau told about 1,000 party supporters. “The last thing Northern Ontario needs is an 18-cent excise tax that would raise gas prices that are already high.” OIL IMPORTS WARNING Prime Minister Joe Clark has criticized the Liberal Bote, an :. .
