square-foot Lynn Valley Centre in
North Vancouver, has recently ac-
quired six shopping centres in the
south-central United States
through its subsidiary, Marathon
U.S. Realties Inc.

Marathon currently owns and
manages 23 shopping centres in
major cities across Canada. The
latest U.S. acquisitions bring the
total rentable space in its malls in
the two countries to more than 15
million square feet.

APPROXIMATELY 700 jobs are
sull available for this year’s PNE
fair, Aug. 22 to Sept. 7, in Van-
couver,

The PNE is looking for experi-
enced waiters, waitresses, full-ser-
vice bartenders, grill cooks, patrol
personnel and special security in-
vestigators.

Wages for these jobs range from
$6.64 to $9.48 per hour.

“We've been extremely suc-
cessful in recruiting for most of
our positions, but we still need
about 700 people for these more
specialized jobs,'’ said PNE
human resources manager Elsie
Hess.

Applicants are asked to apply at
Canada Employment Centres or
student centres.

The Vancouver-based company
is offering i cush refund incentive
to new clients who quit snaking
permanently in the first four years
of their coveraye.

$300-$400 per policyholder, said

director of marketing develop-
ment. “No one has ever gone this
fur before.’

In addition, a percentage of the
premiums venerated by the new
policies will be donated to the Ca-
nadian Cancer Society,

The life insurance industry con-
tinually monitors and analyses
statistics about how long people
live and why they die. Smoking
shows up consistently as the largest
preventable cause of disease and
death.

The cash-back provision for new
five and 10-year renewable term
policyholders is another first in the
Canadian insurance industry. The
refund for policyholders who can
verify they have quit smoking for
12 months and are still in good
health af the end of that period,
will equal the difference between a
smoker's and a non-smoker’s
premiums over a year.

For cxample, a 35-year-old
smoking male would pay $675 per
year for a five-year renewable term
policy. The same man who did not
smoke would pay $372.50, for a
difference of $302.50.
