B2 - Sunday, May 15, 1983 - North Shore News BASEBALL ROUNDUP Senior baseball back on N. Shore The new look North Shore Mountviews’ kick off their Senior baseball season Monday, May 16, 6:30 p.m. at Ambleside Park. This should be an_ interesting matchup as the opposition is the Burnaby club that several of the N.S. players came from and that Bill Bayne coached for the past three seasons. North Shore will go with their ace left hander Mark Bajus on the mound and he will be backed by what should be some solid of- fensive punch. Their second game is Wednesday at Ambleside against the Vancouver Pharoahs and this could see a pitching matchup between the Sokolski brothers, older brother Mitch for Paraohs and talented rookie younger brother Steve Double On a rain soaked field North Shore Cricket Club first team got on the winning track by soundly defeating Richmond by seven wickets at Norgate Park fast Saturday (7th of May). Richmond batted first and were dismissed for a total of 58 runs, as a result of some FOREST HILLS RESULTS In Forest Hills major league play, one of the highlights of the week was Capilano Lions’ pitcher, R.J. Caswell, pitching to a 15 to7 win over Highland Optical. Two doubles from Tom Atkins in the same game saw the Lions chalk up another victory. In the minor division, the high spot of the week was Mac’s against Mitten Realty. This game featured a double play by Casey Parliament to Jim Paterson. The final score was Mac’s - 12; Mitten Realty - 8. There has been some out- standing pitching in_ the major league this year with the likes of Mike Slaney with Stong’s, R.J. Caswell with the Lions, and Andrew Shandron and Earle Birney win for fine bowling by Amba Sharma (7 for 23) and Bill Sims (3 for 31). After a shaky start North Shore rallied with = solid innings by Bill Sims (16) and a fine 4th wicket partnership between Roy Herbert (18 not out) and Gai Gadhav (16 not out) to score a total of 61 for 3, thereby beating Rich- with Skyline Sports. John Ridd with the Lions is hitting like a pro with four hits and three RBI's in just one game this past week. Where, oh where, is the weather of '82? Friday night was a prime example of the weatherman gone mad with hail, rain, thunder = and lightning. Many games scheduled for this past weekend were cancelled. We can still hope for the return of good wether. No coach likes to play make-up games. Everyone loves baseball, but it still is the only game you can’t play in the rain.
