Q.: Both of these people were channeled through your agency. What exactly ts the North Shore Volunteer Acuon Centre and how does it operate? Margaret: Basically our purpose is to encourage voluntary participation in the community and_ to coordinate recruitment, referral and _ training of volunteers for the various agencies. We _ interview potential volunteers and then try to match their in- terests and skills with suitable openings. We also conduct training = sessions designed to increase the skills of volunteers throughout the North Shore. Coordination and promotion are also major activities. Q: Could you give us an idea of the type of volunteer positions currently available to North Shore residents? Margaret: As you know, the North Shore News has generously provided us with space to advertise available opportunities.
