North Vancouver

Many residents of an East
2nd Street apartment
building in North Vancouver
City were forced to evacuate
the building early Saturday
morning when fire broke out
in one of the apartments.

A North Vancouver City
Fire Department spokesman
said Apartment 202 at 360
East 2nd Street was gutted
by the blaze which kept fire
fighters occupied for over
three hours.

He said the fire was
reported at 7:16 a.m. when
the tenant, Richard Leduc,
and guests, were awoken by
smoke.

The occupants ran out of
the apartment, but the
spokesman said the door was
left open, allowing smoke
and flames to spread into the
hallway.
