‘Grabber’ suspect faces six N. Shore charges By CHRIS LLOYD Only two of the six attacks on women in West Van- couver have been listed in charges against a man arrested last week, even though police believe all were carried out by just one man, who became dubbed as the Grabber. However, in North Vancouver, RCMP have laid charges against the man for all four attacks carried out last year on women within the municipality, in the parking lot area of Capilano Mall. West Van Police have charged 26-year-old Stephen Frederick Stanley, of Port Coquitlam, for indecent assaults alleged to have been carried out at Ambleside Beach June 14 and at Park Royal South parkade December 14. The December attack was by far the most violent of any of the assaults carried out on women on the North Shore. Up to then, the Grabber’s style had been to quickly grope at women's breasts, sometimes holding his victims around the neck from behind. That day, a 64-year-old woman turning up for work at a department store, said the man jumped on top of her while she was turning round to get her purse from the back seat of her car. She said he tore at her clothing like a madman and held her pinned firmly while he laid on top of her across the front seats of her car until she managed to sound the car horn and startled him away. The Ambieside incident was on a 35-year-old woman who was sunbathing with her son and said she was aware of a shadow looming over her just before her breasts were grabbed by a man. The other attacks in West Vancouver were also in the Park Royal area and all the unes reported in North van were at Capilano Mall in the area of the elevators and the parkade. Stanley, a married man who 1s a delivery driver, was arrested at his place of employment Thursday last week as a result of an in- vestigation by Burnaby RCMP He was taken to West Vancouver Friday and was charged with the two assaults in that municipality The same day he was in terviewed in West Van by a detective trom North van and charges for the Capilano Mall assaults were also laid against him He ts duc to appear in provincial court in West Vancouver tomorrow (Thursday).
