the “square”, said the study,
should help pay for the non-
profit community-use
facilities. But Sutcliffe told
council that people he had
surveyed did not want to sce
hotels, apartments or major
retail facilites.

He suggested that, if
council liked the overall
concept, they should allot
about $25,000 to study the
hydraulic action on the

pier, and the in-
tegration of traffic and

parking with the rest of
Ambleside.
Council has now

distributed copies of the
study to community groups,
asking for their comments to
be forwarded to municipal
hall not later than June 29.

Meanwhile, two copies of
the study are also available
at the Memorial Library for
the use of the general public,
members of which are also

free to submit comments by
June 29.

The plan was received

with some apparent en-

thusiasm last week by most
council members. Apart
from her two major con-
cerns over the small
proportion of the area
designated for community-
use development and open
space, Alderman Blackburn
also told the News at the
time that she liked the
concept.

“However,” she added

later, “alternatives for the
area should be of interest.”
