Roma, you see, deals in abun- dance and exuberance. Its wine list, for example, runs to over 250 selections ($17 to $340, for an Amerone Classico Superior Bertani 1962), most of which are Italian. Eight interesting wines are offered by the glass ($5 to $7), and the list includes special sections of Grappa ($4 to $9 per glass) and other aperitif and after-dinner refresnment. Cafe Roma's menu is equally daunting: three long pages dense “with Appetizers (cold and hot, $6.50 to $9); Soups and Salads ($4.50 to $8); Fish ($17 to $19); Grilled Meats ($15 to $19); Veal and Chicken ($17.50); Pasta (a full page, $12 to $13); and Combina- ‘tion Platters ($15 to $35). It is a diversity that reflects the Corsi enthusiasm for good food, and it is a diversity that can be sampled in small or large doses. The Corsis have provided entic- ‘ing sampler options with Roma's various pasta, meat- and fish-feast combo plates. - The restaurant's additional Food and Wine Menu Degustazione . also lists a quartet of dishes that can be ordered together ($30 per person) with wine suggestions for each course. But much joy can be extracted from simply working various small corners of the menu. Table Hopping, for example, did not progress beyond the Appetizer section during its recent Friday night graduation celebration. Of course, kindergarten gradu- ates are not ‘usually willing com- panions in dining adventures, but : small folk fike interesting plates and colorful presentations as much as do the graduates of higher learning institutions, We began with Chianti Fur ‘i for the senior celebrators and St.isley Temples for the junior celebratees. The chianti, a sterling blend of such noble Italian grapes as ‘Sangiovese and Malvasia del chi- anti, had a good soft touch. Good company, too, for the complimen- tary slab of Roma's thick and chewy pizza bread. The plate of Calamari Fritti was piled high with fried calamari rings, topped with sprigs of parsley ‘and accompanied by pots of spicy marinara dip. Legumi Al Crostino added the traditional Italian appetizer built upon crostini -- toasted Italian bread. The Roma version came topped with marinated red and yellow belt ‘ peppers, pan-fried eggplant, sun- dried tomatoes and red onions, all baked with smoked Mozzarella cheese. Elsewhere on the table: Raviolo Aperto, a big square of black pasta topped with a herbed salmon and shrimp filling and finished with a square of green pasta and rings of red onion; Carpaccio Sottobosco, argula leaves beneath fine slices of raw beef topped with thick shav- © ings of fresh Parmesan cheese, capers and white truffle oil; Pro- sciutto e Carciofi, more fine slices, this time Italy’s delicate air-dried ham accompanied with marinated artichoke hearts and a colorful garnish of red and yellow bell peppers encased in endive. The Zabaglione finale combined the richness of Mascarpone cream cheese with wild Saskatchewan blueberries. We enjoyed all of the above on Roma's spacious sundeck, which looks out over the green harbor- side oasis of Waterfront Park —- host to informal cricket matches, train shuntings and Japanese gardens, . It is a good place to celebrate graduations of all description: RRAW Rah Hatha eh RENE Bk RANE Eel BEGGR_ - Use. our Naturally-Based Sunscréens with cooling,- soothing | and ‘Protectin ingredients such as: ‘Aloe, Sesame, Keep the skin hydrated by drinking lots of water Oe AN iy Cheosse any 4 dishes on our menu ond receive a FREE CRAB 500 mil Reg. 99¢ ° 90% of skin a aging is there ofoverexposure tosun;’ ‘# 70% of sun damage occurs during incidental — laniing without trying-suchas. . walking down the street, riding a bicycle, or driving in a car; . ° UVB (Known as the buming rays) areat their. trongest between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m,;" “-. ° studies show that UVB rays can cause ‘wrinkles, discolouration, sagging and skin cancer; * UVA rays — the aging rays—do their damage all ‘ day long from sunrise to sunset; 2 UVA rays are nat blocked by glass enclosures ‘Until Tuesda ry, July 31.
