The ACG Five Peaks Mountain and Trail Running Series is for the latter group of people. The series comes from Greg Sproule, one of the guys who created this past week- end’s wildly popular sea2sum- mit adventure race — in fact, he developed the Five Peaks series two years ago as a train- ing event for the sca2summit. Since it was the first (and remains the only) mountain and trail running series, he couldn’t have known that the sport would sake off. But take off it has. This year, as well as the B.C. Coast Mountain Series of five races, there was a five-race series in Alberta and another = in Ontario. Next year, there’s to be an eastern Ontario series and a Quebee series, bringing the grand total to 25 races through the season. The races vary from eight to.15 kilometres, and as the name implies, these are no ‘flatiand jaunts. Plus, if your vision is still clear. enough to enjoy them, some of the ele- vated stretches offer incredible views. ; Unfortunately, if you haven’t participated in the first four of this year’s B.C. series, you can’t qualify for the series’ championship.
