inquiring reporter AS reported in the July 5 News, West Vancouver fire- fighters are concerned about a lack of resources and funding. Chief among their concerns: fire halls not sturdy cnough to withstand an earthquake — a disas- ter which would surely demand the services and equip- ment of the fire department. As well, the aging aerial ladder truck is in dire need of replacement. But upgrades like these cost money. Lots of it. And munic- ipalities have little to spare these days. Why not pool the resources and equipment of all three North Shore fire services, and administer it all through one office? On the other hand, if amalgamation would jeopardize the response time of the fire department, those who oppose the move would be justified.
