Shore team at B.C.s By Andrew McCredie Sports Editor HANDSWORTH sur- prised everyone by win- ning seven of 10 matches and finishing fourth in the 16-school B.C. triple-A girls’ vol- leyball championships Saturday at Capilano College Sportsplex. North Vancouver played host to both the triple-A and double-A championships last weekend at five sites. The finals were played at Capilano College. The Royals — who were able to muster only a sixth-.. place finish in the “North Shore league after compiling a ~ me 3-6 record — were automatic qualifiers to the B.C. tourna- ment as co-hosts of the triple- _ A and double-A tournament _ along with Seycove. :-North Shore champion Argyle Pipers beat West Van Highlanders in the match for ninth and 10th places. West Vancouver won a wildcard spot in the triple-A tournament the day before the championships began. Both Argyle and West Vancouver ended with 6-4 records. In addition to some strong team showings by North Shore squads, local individuals also left their mark. Handsworth lost just one of their seven round robin matches (to West Van), and finished fourth in the tournament. Sasha Kolodziej, of Sey- cove, was named as a double- A second team all-star, The Seyhawks won three of eight matches in the dou- ble-A tournament. This is the fourth consecu- tive year that Handsworth has placed in the top four in the province, having come first in 1993, second in 1994 and fourth a year ago.
