Traditions, dances and prayers were forced from souls Dear Editor: I will stand proudly with my relations when confronting preju- dice. Why does hatred and racism exist? All nationalities are born from a mother's womb, to experi- ence their own lifestyle. “Can you understand ‘the impact our loss of culture had? Our. tradi- tions, dances and prayers were forced from our souls. : Our reservations subjected us to racism, leaving us frustrated and ashamed. The majority of our nations can- not speak or understand our native language, given to us by our ances- tors. - |. Today we have the freedom to wear moccasins, mukluks and the Cowichan sweater. We can practise our dances and ceremonies with pride, Even this may cause prob- lems for those. who won't accept us as people. Recently a friend was beaten for wearing a Cowichan sweater, A young white man assaulted 4 young white female for no real reason at all. This is very upsetting and 1 have extreme hope and faith that people can respond in an adult manner. I hope all young parents will teach their children respect and control. I respect and envy all nationali- ties. We are individuals who need acceptance. I would appreciate your support. : Candy George Paell Woaututh Nation “Cello masters showed not all in.a teenage wasteland ; Dear Editor: .
