Re: North Vancouver City taxes

Despite the city’s finance com-
Mittee chiim of a superb tax re-
cord that boasts many city prop-
erty owners will pay less in taxes
in 1993 than they did TE years ago
in 1982, and despite claims that
North Vancouver City municipal
taxes are the lowest for all classes
of properties on the North Shore,
the reality is that most residential
homeowners face double-digit tax
increases this year.

Examine what tax inereases the
writer faces for an average 26-
year-old three-bedroom home on
an average size lot:

follows a 17.28% increase last
year for a combined total of near-

At a time when T-bill, bank
rate and inflation rates are at
30-year lows, these double-digit
tax increases are totally unitecep-
table.

All municipal authorities
responsible for expenditures
should be forced to hold all in-
creases to or below the inflation
rate.

If we are going to get serious
about cutting deficits, tet's set an
example in our own back yard!

1 have always considered the
situation on the North Shore,
where we have three municipalities
looking after the interests of
about 130,000 people, to be slight-
ly ridiculous,

The problem is, as with our
federal) and provincial govern-
ments, there are far too many

bureaucracies in our country; this
means duplication of — essential
services which add to our ever-
increasing tix burden.

True deficit cutting, lowering of
our taxes, and efficiency can be
achieved by voters on the North
Shore demanding the merging of
our municipalities into on cohesive
local government.
