7 - Friday, March 2, 1990 - North Shore News Preserve land for parks Dear Editor: I attended the North Vancouver District Jan. 23 public hearing on the proposed Badger Road exten- sion and spoke on behalf of the Deep Cove Community Associa- tion, As stated then, our position has been and continues to be that ‘‘park land — whether zoned as such or designated through a public Official Community Plan process — should be used for park purposes. To allow any other precedent to be set is to bring into question the integrity of such zon- ing or designation for other MAILBOX lands.”* I hasten to add that we have no desire to interfere with the rights of private developers. But :o sug- gest that private property owners have the right to use park land to access new subdivision is unrea- sonable to say the feast. Yet the Caledonia Avenue Citi- zens and Owners Committee (CACOC) have steadfastly refused to consider any other option. A suggestion that the extension of Badger Road would create ac- cess to the park is curious. Pedes- trian access is there now. The width of the road being proposed Housing outweighs golf need Dear Editor: I would like to take issue with Mr. Bruce Hamersley’s arguments in his letter to the editor for the proposed Northlands golf club. It is ridiculous to suggest that “less experienced players”’ cannot learn to trudge up and down hills, and I have never experienced any traffic problems on Mt. Seymour Parkway and seldor: on the Se- cond Narrows Bridge. However, my main argument is that there is a great shortage of & Kate Oca Ravel Davies Goldsmith foan Brown SEYCOVE AUCTION Seycove Secondaty Community School, Burrard View re folio sore and Sherwood Park tlemen- School wor e to express their a ation to the following for their outstanding suppon of this sutcesstal event and to all the volunteers for the donation of thet time. jon/Don Tan; Sarah Chambers Jolie Huy aot oe . Tf there is to be no development in the inter-river area, then the locations where houses can be built are becoming increasingly fewer. Northlands would be a fine area for development and surely pro- viding decent shelter for people is more important than the desires of golfers. Gerald F. As a final point, this portion of the park should not be viewed in isolation but as part of the greater intent of the Official Community Plan. When development from Indian River pushes towards Woodlands as forecast by the district, that greenbelt will form an important buffer, helping Deep Cove to maintain some of the atmosphere it now enjoys.
