Make your own movie this fali students come up with when they start making a movie,’’ says Capilano College media instructor Jim Bizzocchi. Bizzocchi, who teaches an open course in introductory film making (Media 674) at the college each fall, points to some of the film projects that his students worked on last semester. “Three of the films were completely different. The first was a view of Vancouver's tougher side based on the concept that a city is defined bv its graffiti and street art. In contrast, there was a lyrical film about the beach at White Rock with stunning images of sand, waves, children and birds. “And then there was a humorous piece about a yuppie whose whole life is under the control of his appointment book and his digital watch.”’ Media 074 teaches students the basics of filmmaking, including camera operation, scripting, shooting and editing. By the end of the semester students have produced their own short movie. “PE think what makes it so gratifying for me as a teacher is that the students learn a great deal in a very short time,”’ said Bizzocchi. ‘‘People banks of Lynn Creek.
