A HOUSING project of the Mount Seymour Lions Club will go ahead despite strong objections from one council member over lack of public input. North Vancouver District council gave final approval July 22 for a development permit to allow the construc- tion of the assisted housing project at Guribaldi Drive and Bowron Court. Ald. Joan Gadsby was the lone dissenting alderman in the 4-] vote. Mayor Marilyn Baker and Ald. Ernie Crist were both absent from the meeting. Gadsby told council she was not opposed to assisted housing or the good works of the Lions Club. But she said she could not support a 5 - Friday. August 2, 1985 - North Shore News Lions housing gets go ahead project that lacked input from the public. “IT would feel better knowing what the people have to say,’’ Gadsby said. “T would like to vote in favor but 1 can’t because | believe in the people’s right to have their say.”’ Council had been told at an early meeting a develop- ment permit was needed tight away so the project could qualify for Canada Mortgage and Housing Cor- poration assistance. The permit was needed by the first week in August. Ald. Mary Segal told council it was nonsense to say the public has had no input and Ald.
