Al8 - Wednesday, July 22, 1981 - North Shore News By LUCILLE FISHER Bertha Pratt of the Kiwanis Apartments, West Vancouver, will be 94 years of age on August 14, 1981, and she walks four miles nearly every day. She is-a shining example of the true benefits of keeping fit. “Yes,” she says, “I was born in 1887 in Queen Victoria’s Jubilee year. When I was ten I saw her “Diamond Jubilee. I can see the old lady now, sitting in her carriage. She was so dumpy.” Mrs. Pratt has many in- teresting stories to tell of the part of her life when she and her husband managed the old Vancouver Hotel. In those days there was a lot of entertaining to be done, especially the supper dances which were held two or three times a week. She had no need of extra exercise then, but now over the years she has developed a great interest in walking. Fhere are many. books at the West Vancouver Memorial Library about keeping: “fit.. I just put on my boots and go.” She remembers that when she was in her middle 80's she would wak down to 25th Avenue and meet her friend.
